The home heating subsidy paid to Norman Wells seniors has been almost doubled by the GNWT in a bid to help cover a staggering jump in fuel costs.
The N.W.T. government’s heating fuel exemption came into effect on Monday. There will be a three-year pause on the carbon tax for diesel heating fuel, and a reduction in cost of living offset payments for all residents of the territory.
The N.W.T. will follow the federal three-year exemption on carbon tax for home heating fuel. The exemption will begin on April 1.
NWT residents won’t have to pay carbon tax on diesel home heating fuel from the start of April, but it’ll also mean lower offset payments to residents.
